MEDIA ALERT — CHILDREN'S MIRACLE NETWORK, METRO NEW YORK DONATES OVER $1.6 MILLION TO METRO NEW YORK CHILDREN’S HOSPITALS
Martinsville, NJ — Tuesday, June 13, 2006
• Largest Children's Miracle Network, Metro New York donation to date
• Children's Miracle Network, Metro New York has donated over $8.6 million to date
Children's Miracle Network is a non-profit organization dedicated to saving and improving the lives of children by raising funds for 170 children's hospitals. Children's Miracle Network, Metro New York donated over $1.6 million to its five children's hospitals in the Metro New York area this year, and over $8.6 million to date. Children's Miracle Network’s donations have the benefit of being unrestricted, allowing each hospital to allocate the funds to its greatest needs.
"Thanks to the support of very generous people in the metropolitan New York region, we were able to give the largest annual donation to our five local children's hospitals this year," said William R. Tawpash, Executive Director of Children's Miracle Network, Metro New York. "Last year Children’s Miracle Network donations helped the five local metropolitan New York children's hospitals serve over 420,000 children, and we hope this year's donations will continue to help those children and more in the coming year."
Below are the hospitals helped by Children's Miracle Network, Metro New York's donations this year.
Children's Specialized Hospital
"We are deeply grateful to Children's Miracle Network, especially for this year's donation of more than $640,000. Their contributions make it possible for the hospital to treat every child in need, regardless of their family's ability to pay for care," said Theresa Leinker, Director of Marketing and Events at Children's Specialized Hospital, the largest pediatric rehabilitation hospital in the country. "During their rehabilitation, many of our patients live at the hospital, often staying much longer than in an acute care center. With the help of Children's Miracle Network, the hospital can offer more accessible care for kids." Children's Miracle Network has given Children's Specialized Hospital over $5.5 million since 1987.
Schneider Children's Hospital of the North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System
"Schneider Children's Hospital is grateful to receive the $360,000 donation from Children's Miracle Network. Not only have the funds assisted in providing state-of-the-art care for children in this region, but philanthropy of this type enables us to treat diseases that have become extremely common in recent times, such as asthma," said Dr. Philip Lanzkowsky, Executive Director of Schneider Children's Hospital. "This aspect of the unrestricted funds has been so helpful to our hospital because many urgent needs would otherwise go unfulfilled." Children's Miracle Network has donated over $1.6 million to date to Schneider Children's Hospital.
The Children's Hospital at Montefiore
"Our collaboration with Children's Miracle Network has resulted in the establishment of several important programs to help support our patients and their families during medical treatment," said Stewart A. Ault, Administrator for Operations at The Children's Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM). "This year's donation of almost $300,000 will be used to support a family education library, special summer camps for children with medical needs and family-centered support groups, as well as several clinical programs. To date Children's Miracle Network has contributed more than $500,000 to CHAM."
The Bristol-Myers Squibb Children's Hospital at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital
"We are thrilled to receive donations from Children's Miracle Network, as the generous donation of nearly $100,000 this year continues to go to our construction needs. The donations have contributed to our extensive construction projects in the past two years. We recently built the original four floors and added two more floors. One of these two new floors is a regional prenatal center and neonatal intensive care (NICU) and we also renovated space to establish a new pediatric emergency department this past January," said Bruce Newman, Senior Vice President for Development at The Bristol-Myers Squibb Children's Hospital at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. Children's Miracle Network has donated approximately $500,000 to date.
Maria Fareri Children's Hospital at Westchester Medical Center
"Children’s Miracle Network’s funds make a difference for our children every year and we are pleased to receive the recent donation of $262,000. Annually, we have allocated these funds to support programs, services and technology throughout the seventeen pediatric specialty divisions at Maria Fareri Children's Hospital. This year we are using Children's Miracle Network funds to focus on the development of a comprehensive family resource program, as well as the Art Studio and the Music Therapy program," said John Fareri, Chairman of the Children's Hospital Foundation at Maria Fareri Children's Hospital at Westchester Medical Center. Children's Miracle Network has donated over $500,000 to Maria Fareri Children's Hospital at Westchester Medical Center to date.
