• All Funds Raised Locally Stay Local and Go Towards Helping Metro New York Area Children’s Hospitals Affiliated with Children’s Miracle Network
The Metro New York Chapter of Children’s Miracle Network, an international non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds for and awareness of children's hospitals, today announced that it raised over $170,000 at its annual marquis events to raise money for its five children’s hospitals in the Metro New York area.
On Wednesday, May 3, 2006, New York Football Giants Running Back Tiki Barber hosted more than 150 VIPs at a special cocktail reception and live auction at Mercedes-Benz Manhattan in New York City. The Wednesday evening reception was the kickoff event to the Fourth Annual Tiki Barber Golf Tournament held on May 8, 2006 in Springfield, New Jersey at Baltusrol Golf Club (home to the 2005 PGA Championship). Those who attended the events include key celebrities and business leaders from the area representing corporations including U.S. News & World Report, FujiFilm, Golf Digest, YES Network and more.
A hallmark of Children's Miracle Network is that the funds raised locally stay local and therefore donations from both events will go to children’s hospitals in the metropolitan New York area. Last year these two annual events raised approximately $115,000.
New York Football Giants Running Back, Tiki Barber, stated, “It has been an honor for me to be affiliated with Children’s Miracle Network for nearly six years. This is an organization that does great things all around the country but it is especially gratifying for me to be able to help local children in need and to see first hand the results of our ongoing efforts.”
Funds raised help local children’s hospitals who help kids with all types of medical challenges including cancer, trauma, heart, lung, and muscular diseases, birth defects, AIDS, and many other health-related issues. The children are treated at five affiliated hospitals in the metropolitan New York area and medical assistance is based on need, not the ability to pay.
William R. Tawpash, Executive Director of the Metro New York Chapter of Children’s Miracle Network, commented, “We are delighted to once again host these important events that each year raise significant funds for our area’s children, and we are grateful for the participation and donations from so many generous individuals from New York and New Jersey. Every year over 250,000 children in the metropolitan New York area benefit directly from the activities of this charitable organization. This highlights how powerful collective local efforts can be and we are proud to provide a way for people to help those in need that can be found in their own backyard.”
